Café is another song that was previously released with Eddie’s first group La perfect in 1964. (Listen here)
It was reworked (and transposed to Am) in 1998 for the album “El Rumbero Del Piano”
Just like ‘Azucar’ (also available here), the arrangement is similar but has been modernised, most noticeable with a larger horn section and more evolved patterns.
It is a pleasure to see those transformations over time as it shows Eddie’s development as an arranger finding and applying his signature ‘sound’
It always strikes me also how amazing his records sound. There is a level of transparency and power that has never been achieved with any other artist. All credits to the amazing Jon Fausty (mixing engineer) and Leon Zervos (mastering engineer).
